Lahug used to be a by-word of local air travelers. It was in Lahug airport where Cebu was linked, axiomatically speaking to Manila and other cities and provinces of the archipelago. In 1967 airport operations were transferred to Mactan Island owing to a bigger airstrip and to lessen the danger of airplanes crashes night in the heart of the city as Lahug Airport was only a few kilometers from downtown Cebu.
